Last year, the Northern Aldborough Festival launched a new annual vocal competition competition of national significance. Last year’s competition saw American mezzo-soprano Lea Shaw and her accompanist Kristina Yorgova triumph. The duo took the first prize of £5000 and the audience prize. The second prize of £1500 went to soprano Alexandra Beason with pianist Ilan Kurtser. This year’s competition promises to be even bigger and better! the 2024 panel includes legendary bass Sir John Tomlinson, conductor Edward Gardner OBE and pianist and artistic director Sholto Kynoch.
