Fast rising trumpet star Matilda Lloyd was the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final in 2014 and in 2017 won the Eric Aubier International Trumpet Competition. Now in demand all over the world, Matilda’s recent highlights include performances at the BBC Proms, debuts in the USA, Netherlands and South Africa and critically acclaimed recordings. She appears at Aldborough with her own ensemble in a mouth-watering programme of gems from Italian Opera.

Hailed as “remarkable” by the Telegraph, British trumpeter Matilda Lloyd is a fast-rising young artist with exceptional poise and musicality. Aged 26, Matilda is captivating audiences and critics alike with her artistry and communication, and her “flawless sound and virtuosic technique” (Saarbrücker Zeitung, March 2020) bring a unique flair to every performance.

Recent highlights have included her debuts in the USA with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, in the Netherlands with the Rotterdam Sinfonia, in Finland with the Oulu Sinfonia, in South Africa with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmomic and Johannesburg Philharmonic, in Germany with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern and in Sweden with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. Matilda also premiered John Woolrich’s Hark! the echoing air at Snape Maltings with Sian Edwards and the Britten Sinfonia. Other concerto performances have been with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the Manchester Camerata and she has performed recitals at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and at the Ryedale and Buxton Festivals. Her debut disc with orchestra, conducted by Rumon Gamba with the Britten Sinfonia, is released on the Chandos label in April 2023.

In 2014, Matilda was the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final, and in 2016, gave her BBC Proms solo debut, with the BBC Philharmonic. The following year, Matilda won the Eric Aubier International Trumpet Competition in Rouen, France. Matilda was recently featured as one of BBC Radio 3’s “31 Under 31: Young Stars” and has been featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune numerous times. Matilda’s performance of Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto in E with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern has been played on German Radio station SWR2 as their Musikstück der Woche (Performance of the Week) multiple times in the last year.

Matilda graduated with a First Class degree in Music from Cambridge University in 2017 and received a Master’s Degree (DipRAM) from the Royal Academy of Music in 2019. She also studied for 2 years with Håkan Hardenberger on the Artist Diploma course at the Malmö Academy of Music. Matilda is a Yamaha Artist.
