Earlier this year we had to make the difficult and sad decision to cancel our 2020 Festival owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the difficult times, we have been determined to mark the scheduled dates of this year’s Festival in some way, so, as a small consolation, our Festival Director, Robert Ogden has put together an inspiring playlist we hope you will enjoy.
Showcasing some of the incredible artists and repertoire that you would have heard this year from the stage in St Andrew’s Church, and our other beautiful venues, the playlist treats us to some wonderful performances.
Enjoy one of Viktoria Mullova’s landmark performances, which features the last movement of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto. Julian Perkins, who directed the Festival’s acclaimed Semele production last year, performs with his wife, the renowned Italian accompanist Emma Abbate. Enjoy their effervescent Polka and Romance from one of Rachmaninoff’s suites, which they recorded together during lockdown. There is also an opportunity to enjoy some up and coming local talent which was due to be showcased this year.
It would have been a programme to savour, and so it was particularly important to us that as far as possible, the original intended programme for 2020 should be presented in June 2021.
We do hope you will enjoy this small taste of what will be on offer next year and hope you will agree with us that it will be worthy of the year long wait.
